Dark Angel Painting Tutorial by Raphael
Today we are happy to publish a tutorial from Raphael (don’t miss his blog : lafaf75.wordpress.com and the french version here : version française) for the Dark Angels from Games Workshop.
He recently blowed up our mind with his version of “PSYKER DARK ANGEL” and now, he share with us a gaming version. We are now please to hand over to our friend Raphael… :
It’s been a while that I saw multiple’s tutorials on how to paint Dark Angels. Apart from one or two … No one really stand out of the crowd by its originality in the choice of colors. Which is why I started this challenge: make a Dark Angel, a “cool” Dark Angel.
The Challenge is to stick the colors schema of Games Workshop and add subtle variations.
(note : the green is more darker in reality)
Step 1 : aerograph.
Base : Caliban Green (Base – Citadel)
Shadow : Black 10% (Model Air – Vallejo) + Signal Blue 70% (Model Air – Vallejo) + Caliban Green 20%
Light: Caliban Green 30% + Kabalite Green 70% (Layer – Citadel)
Step 2 : lights
1/ Kabalite Green –> on the edges
2/ Kabalite Green 80% + Glauss Blaster Green 20% (Edge – Citadel) –> on the edges, more focused
3/ Kabalite Green 50% + Glauss Blaster Green 50% –> on the edges, much more focused
4/ Kabalite Green 20% + Glauss Blaster Green 80% –> light spots.
Base : Mephiston Red (Base – Citadel)
Shadow : Carroburg Crimson (Shade – Citadel) –> light dilution
1/ Mephiston Red –> on the edges
2/ Wild Rider Red (Layer – Citadel) –> on the edges, more focused
3/ Wild Rider Red 30% + Lugganath Orange 70% (Edge – Citadel) –> light spots.
